Whether we are trying to bulk up or shedding weights or trying to stay healthy, many of us try to eat a protein based diet everyday without knowing really whether the protein we consume gets absorbed by our body or not.

There are certain ways by which we could make sure that our body is actually digesting proteins. They are

By chewing food well:
Whatever we eat through our mouth would get broken down by saliva and enzymes present in the mouth. It is necessary to chew down the food well and make it easy for the stomach and intestines to process. This would make sure that the proteins we eat get fully digested and absorbed. By adding digestive enzymes to diet:
Proteins would get broken down into amino acids by means of digestive enzymes like proteases etc. It is necessary to add enzyme rich foods like honey, mangoes etc if we feel that our body is not digesting protein well.

By staying hydrated:
For every bodily function, water is essential and this includes digestion also. There would be a balance of digestive fluids and enzymes in the stomach by staying hydrated. By drinking water before intake of meals, food would get broken down and this includes proteins too. So, make sure not to drink too much water before meals. This could dilute stomach acids and hinder the absorption of proteins.

By keeping gut healthy:
For digestion to be effective, it is necessary that we must have a healthy gut. The gut environment would be maintained by intake of probiotics and prebiotics and this would help in protein breakdown and absorption etc. For probiotics, we must eat foods like kefir, yoghurt etc and for prebiotics we must eat foods like onion, garlic etc. Please take care.

Our digestive enzymes could get messed up due to stress. To get into a rest and digest state, we must practise mindfulness and relaxation techniques etc before eating. It is necessary to take deep breaths, sit in one calm place and concentrate on the meals. It is true that by reducing our stress levels it would be possible for the body to digest and absorb proteins well.
