It is worth mentioning here that both our immune system as well as thyroid gland depend on mineral selenium and our health would get affected badly if there is abundance or deficiency of selenium. It is necessary to overcome selenium deficiency for our health. Various foods that have selenium are brown rice, cottage cheese, tuna and boiled eggs etc.

Daily requirement of selenium:

Every day, infants need 15 mcg of selenium and children between 9 and 13 would need 40 mcg of selenium. Per day, adults would need 55 mcg of selenium.

Feeling tired:

Feeling tired could be associated with many other mineral deficiencies also but mostly it is associated with selenium deficiency. Our thyroid functions would get affected by poor selenium levels in us.

Hair fall:

Hair fall in us could be due to various factors like stress, genetics, poor hair hygiene etc. Not many of us would associate hair fall with selenium deficiency. It is believed that when the cells in the hair follicles react to decrease in the thyroid hormone, then our hairs would fall out faster.

Our immune system and immunity would be superb if our selenium levels are normal. We would not get affected by illness or infections etc. Deficiency of selenium would lead to a compromised immune system and due to this we could get illness etc frequently.

Muscle weakness:

It is also one important symptom of selenium deficiency. It must be taken into account that mineral selenium plays a huge role in metabolism etc. Metabolism is a process by which food is converted into energy. In persons with selenium deficiency, their muscles would not get enough energy from the diet and they would have muscle weakness.

Brain fog:

Brain fog can be due to many reasons like stress, poor sleep etc. It can also occur due to selenium deficiency. Brain fog refers to forgetfulness, confusion, lack of mental clarity etc. Point is that selenium is needed to make selenoproteins that would support cognitive functions.
