Aadi Perukku 2024 Celebration
Aadi Perukku, celebrated by the Tamil community, falls on Saturday, August 3, 2024. This festival marks the start of the monsoon season and honors the role of water in agriculture.
Timings and Significance
In 2024, Aadi Perukku coincides with Punarbhusam Nakshatra in the morning, followed by Poosam Nakshatra until afternoon. Auspicious times for rituals are from 7:45 am to 8:45 am and 4:45 pm to 5:45 pm. The new moon begins after these times, marking Aadi Amavasi, a day for ancestor worship. As it is a Saturday, the time from 9 am to 10:30 am is Rahu Kalam period, and from 1:30 pm to 3 pm is Yamagandam time. It is ideal to complete worship before 9 am for special blessings.
Celebrations
Families gather to pray for a good harvest, prepare special dishes, and make offerings. Women float lamps made from rice flour and jaggery on water bodies. Temples hold special prayers for a steady water supply. Newly-weds seek blessings for their future, reflecting the Tamil people`s respect for nature and agricultural traditions.
