One type of cancer that is affecting many women now is breast cancer. It is worthy to mention here that breast cancer forms in the cells of the breasts. It is essential for women to get diagnosed for breast cancer in the early stage itself. A person`s risk of getting breast cancer depends on several factors.
The factors that could increase breast cancer risk are
Age:
There are more chances of getting breast cancer after the age of 50 and hence concentrating on early detection through self breast examinations and mammograms etc is necessary.
Family history etc:
There are more chances of getting breast cancer now if there was any person in the family who had breast cancer previously. Those in the high risk families must undergo regular screenings so that breast cancer could be detected early.
Gender:
It is true that breast cancer affects women mostly. Sometimes, men might also get this issue. Therefore, men must be aware of the changes in their breast tissue and consult a doctor.
Non cancerous breast conditions etc:
It is believed that non-cancerous breast conditions like atypical hyperplasia or lobular carcinoma etc could make a person more prone for breast cancer.
Exposure to oestrogen:
There are more chances of getting breast cancer if a person has lifetime exposure to oestrogen. It must be noted that the factors that contribute to more oestrogen exposure are early menstruation before the age of 12 or late menopause after the age of 55, never having children, having a first child after the age of 30 etc.
Dense breast tissue:
It would be tough to detect breast cancer if the breast tissue is dense. The dense breast tissues would not be detected by mammograms etc. In such cases, MRI or an ultrasound is recommended.
Lack of physical activity and obesity:
There are more chances of getting breast cancer due to sedentary lifestyle and being obese etc. Therefore, it is necessary to engage in exercises regularly.
Intake of alcohol:
There is a higher risk of getting breast t cancer due to intake of alcohol etc. It is good to reduce the intake or totally quit drinking.
